Capturing in the Rain

Wow – you’d never now there was a drought on!

Assistant Steve and I arrived on the location fully expecting our new client to postpone the shoot due the constant rain. Trouble was, a lot of people had come from for a group shot and it really wasn’t going to happen on another day in the foreseeable future – so we drew on the British Grit mentality and got on with it. We decided to do the group picnic shot under the Union Jack brolly, we only had the one Union brolly, so we shot it in different positions and this is image presently being photoshopped in the graphics department. (I’ll post it when it done)

Fun was had by everyone in spite of of the weather and we achieved some great shots, mainly around the stables where we found a bit of shelter from the rain. When push comes to shove, it challenges like these that push ones boundaries and I reckon we got some interesting images we wouldn’t normally get !

Below are a few rain soaked snaps from Steve’s iPhone and a few of my finished images. By the way our new client is promoting the official British Showjumping Clothing for the 2012 Olympic year. Enjoy, we did! H.

Rizues Comedy Face Time

It’s always fun to ask someone to “Do their Comedy Face” for a snap – you never know what you’ll get in response!!!

Here’s what the the team of clients, models, art director, makeup artist and photographer threw up on a Rizues Workwear shoot.

Danny Mitchel – European Cage Fighting Champion

Danny in action with a head kick

I’ve just taken some promotional portraits for K2 Fightgear of Danny Mitchel (European Champion) and Duane Harper (Black Belt, Head Instructor). For all their mean looks they are a really friendly and fun set of guys – I pushed Danny hard to get the kick shot just right in the camera and his patience was much appreciated! H

Jodhpurs, Jackets, Jumpers.

Keeping it bright, clean and efficient is key to a good catalogue photo-shoot. This week we just completed an intensive three days where it was full steam ahead for myself on camera and computer, Katie on hair and makeup, Steve on lighting and tea, Christine, Caroline and Alice on styling and satumas. Heather, Hannah, Helen, Lanna and Simone on modelling and biscuits. Last but not least client Richard on the phone and whip!

Elastic Ingenuity

I had a near disaster on a shoot of a commercial property in London – my camera tore the thread from it’s base and the connection plate, rendering me unable to put the camera on the tripod. I was really lucky the camera didn’t smash on the ground, the camera strap just managed to catch on the tripod handle.

I was shooting long exposures and night time scenes, my client had just popped off for half an hour and I was panicking. My solution was a local Rymans and the strongest elastic bands they had. I used six bands to attach the tripod plate to the camera base – which did the job, phew!!! The only compromise was I couldn’t get to most of the controls on the camera back! Got to say if it wasn’t for the bands smothering my camera my client wouldn’t have been non the wiser. H.

Model Shoot for Triumph

Assistant Steve, has just sent me an email with snaps attached from Friday’s model shoot for Triumph Clothing in my studio.

Hi Harry,
Here’s a few pics I took on my iphone, thought you might like to have them? I’ve been hammering this hipstamatic app probably just a phase I’m going through!
Cheers
S.

I’ve also added here a few early draft shots from the shoot which were captured with my Phase One P25+ digital camera. I love using it! H.

PS. I reckon I’ll be checking out this ” hipstamatic app” – looks interesting!

Zurich or Bust

I recently did a last minute urgent shoot of a massive shopping centre in Zurich for CBRE’s London office. After a bit of diary reshuffling, I was soon on the tarmac at Manchester airport. I find foreign signage, design and street furniture fascinating – although it’s pretty much the same as at home, you know instantly that your not back in Britain, it feels so alien! I couldn’t help myself from using my pocket camera snapping the signage on my journey to and from . I posted up those snaps plus a selection of the Shoppi Tivoli brief. H.

A Rare Appearance !!!

I don’t often get in my own shots and here is an out-take form a shoot this week.

Unfortunately, the hand only version made it past the final cut – “close but no cigar!” H.

Triumph Motorcycles AW2012 Merchandise Range

Just finished shooting a weeks work on the Autumn/Winter 2012 product range for Triumph. It was the first job for them after I was recommended by an old colleague from my Onfire Clothing days. The images have been cut-out with paths attached – supplying more than 200 products with paths is a first for us but it’s great to deliver the images ready to go and direct via my website!

Triumph are really happy with the shoot for my quality, price and timely delivery. I’m presently quoting on another job for them, this time involving models – getting the second job is always the best compliment a client can give. Many thanks to Steve for his hard work on the computer, Paul for the commission and Mark for the recommendation. Selection of images below. Cheers, H.

Power Of Doom / HSA – Shop Fitting Manufacturers

HSA’s ranges of shop fitting units needed to be done in their factory on logistics grounds. It took a lot of complex lighting and reflector boards to achieve smooth clean and constant lighting, so imagine my surprise when we were presented with a 3rd floor mill location with no power at all!

We linked several long extension leads together and tapped the power from at least 100 yards and three floors away. See video below for the amazing truth! We were running 3 flash lighting power packs, digital camera, laptop and an iMac all from one socket. I was in constant fear of blowing a fuse somewhere along the line – the packs were operting on snail recharge and somehow we got away with it. Thanks to our lucky stars! H.
